About the Production
Hopscotch by Israel Horovitz was presented September 1st–4th, 2017.
About the Play
A young man and a young woman meet, apparently by chance, in a park playground overlooking Lake Quannapowitt. Their conversation, at first, is casual and impersonal—like strangers meeting for the first time. But gradually subtle hints emerge, suggesting that the two have indeed known each other before and, perhaps, better than either cares to remember. Soon, a shattering truth is revealed, explaining the scars and bitterness of a shared loss that has done irrevocable damage to them both.
Daniel Sakamoto-Wengel (Will) is a Twin Cities-based actor, director, magazine editor, preschool teacher, and 2016 graduate from the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA Actor Training Program. Hopscotch is Daniel’s first production with Doghouse Ensemble Theatre. After Daniel’s run with Chain Reaction and Exposed Brick this fall and winter, Daniel will be in the Guthrie Theater’s Dowling Studio this spring for Full Circle’s world premiere of Under This Roof. Daniel is grateful to be performing Hopscotch alongside his partner and best friend, Imani.
Imani Vaughn-Jones (Elsa) is an actress, model, poet, and playwright in the Twin Cities. She is the founder and Editor in Chief of Super Dope&Extra Lit Magazine. She is a dedicated advocate for people of color and social justice, and is always willing to collaborate, whether it be on creative projects or organizing for social change. You can catch her next in Park Square Theater’s production of Hamlet. She is very excited to be working on this production of Hopscotch with Doghouse Ensemble Theater and her greatest love, Daniel.
